How BOTOX can help you:

At Southern Kentucky Smiles, we use Botox to complete your perfect smile cosmetically, or we can use it in conjunction with your TMJ/Bruxism treatment plan. Botox therapy allows us to remove deep crevices and fine lines from your forehead, eyes, frown marks (between your brows), and smile lines around your mouth. Dentists are among the few health professionals equipped with the extensive knowledge of facial anatomy required for proper Botox administration.

Do you have pain due to teeth clenching, muscle spasms, or teeth grinding? Botox can help reduce our symptoms by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. Acetylcholine depolarizes the motor end plate of the muscle and will cause a muscle contraction. By inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, BOTOX effectively will either reduce the intensity of the contraction of a muscle or will eliminate the contraction altogether, depending on the dosage used. Essentially, BOTOX interrupts the contraction process of the muscles and causes a temporary muscle paralysis. This can last usually anywhere up to three months. Gradually the muscle returns to its full function and with no side effects whatsoever.
